Update on new dog

September 30, 2007

Well so far, little boy is still not sure about the new dog.  Two of my cats will not venture outside and I’ve had to put a litter box in the garage and RUSTY turns out to be a chewer.  But I guess that’s pretty natural considering he’s young.

This morning little boy and I went to Petsmart to get RUSTY some chew toys and a new collar and I just happened to talk to the lady who does dog training and I signed us up.  As I wrote out my application and was getting ready to turn over my $109 dollars I thought to myself…what if RUSTY doesn’t work out and here I’ve spent this money on 8 weeks of training for nothing…..but then I blanked that out of my mind.  So we bought the training that starts next Thursday night, 3 chew toys, a collar and a matching leash….I also bought a litter box since all mine are under the screen porch and covered in webs since I haven’t used them in forever.

Husband actually played with RUSTY some today.  We all enjoyed watching him chase after stuff and also wrestle with our smaller dog.  Only thing is he’d get excited and run up to little boy.  He didn’t jump up on little boy like he did yesterday but he got in his face some and then fell submissively to the ground.  Boy was still afraid though.

I finally ended up locking all three dogs up in the dog run so boy could play.

The afternoon went along well until I couldn’t find my favorite cat little kitten.  I looked all over the house and garage.  I searched the back yard, looked up into the trees, I went out front and called him…nothing.  I even opened a can of food and he didn’t come.  Husband had just gotten home with dinner and I told him I was seriously concerned that RUSTY had chased Rocket over the fence at a place that is not secure.  I was almost crying.  Then I walked over to the stairs to see if I heard little boy who had gone to bed early (no nap today) and there was my little kitten sitting at the front door looking out.  Little kitten is not afraid of dogs but RUSTY makes him a little nervous right now and although he is not trying to hurt them he does tend to chase them in the back yard.  Something I hope a little time and training will cure.
