Time to Start the Diet

Well for the past several days I’ve been stuffing myself with cakes and cookies in anticipation of my new diet book (You on a Diet by Dr. Oz) arriving sometime this week.  Amazon.com said the 23rd so I kept on eating and eating.  Today I even emailed a friend and said “Let’s go eat Mexican” so I could get my favorite mexican food before it came.  I guess in my mind I’m thinking everything will change once the book came.  So this afternoon when I get home I see a box on the front porch.  It’s either got to be the new scrapbook punch I ordered or my diet book.  It was the diet book!  Looks like it’s going to be interesting to read though and not a bunch of straight words and stories.  There seem to be lots of pictures and funnies to make the whole process of changing my eating habits a little more enjoyable.  There’s nothing on TV tonight and I’m not really in a scrapbook mood so I’ll probably start reading it here in a little bit….well after I look online to see what a termite looks like.  Me and little boy were sitting on the screened in porch and saw these flying ant looking bugs flocking in a corner.  Now I’m thinking there are such a thing as flying ants and the termite guy was just here a couple of months ago but I want to be sure.  There is so much we need to do around this house and it just seems more difficult now that the baby is here.  Having them spray for bugs worries me because of the baby and the pets.  I know they have special sprays that are safe but the fact the matter is…it’s poison. Here’s what I found but I still couldn’t tell you what I saw.
Are these termites? Or flying ants?
Termite swarmers look a lot like flying ants. In fact, homeowners often mistake flying ants for termite swarmers and become alarmed. But look closely and you’ll see several differences.

Termites· Straight antennae
· Two pairs of wings of the same size
and shape
· Broad waist
· Short legs
Flying ants· Elbowed antennae
· Two pairs of wings, with rear wings smaller than front wings
· Narrow or pinched waist
· Long legs

Any chance that you could catch one? Then you can go and verify what sort of beastie it is.

Yeah if they are still there we’ll get one this afternoon. It was dark by the time I was able to look online. My husband is pretty sure they are the ants so fingers crossed!

I know nothing about bugs, but I’m interested to hear how you like that book. I’ve been eyeing it on Amazon. If I weren’t so averse to the word “diet,” I’d have probably ordered it by now.

So far the book is very interesting and I like the way they lay it out and have a little humor too. I started walking today but probably won’t start the food part till saturday when I can get to the store. Will keep everyone posted.
